Melbourne Beach was founded in 1888 as is one of the oldest waterfront communities.
In the year 1889, the pier and railroad were built yet the railroad consisted of one push car which was used to transport groceries, supplies and people from the dock at the pier along Ocean Avenue to the Ocean. Prior to 1902, transportation to and from Meblboune Beach to Melbourne was a small ferry which was actually a small sail boat. The Melbourne Causway was built in 1921 linking Melbourne to Melbourne Beach.
Melbourne offers offers riverfront homes and Melbounre Beach offers both Riverfront and Ocean front homes. Recreation is abundant consisting of many water sports, boating, fishing and some of the finest golf courses in Florida. Melbourne is renowned for it's miles of beaches.
