Tarpon Springs is located on the Gulf of Mexico in Northern Pinellas County and is easily accessible to locations and attractions in Pasco, Hernando and Hillsborough Counties.
In 1890, a developer discovered sponges growing off the coast of Tarpon Springs. Soon after, sponge divers began immigrating to the area from Greece. Today, Tarpon Springs is among the largest suppliers of natural sponges. All aspects of of the industry is performed from harvesting to the auctioning process on the Sponge Docks weekly. The Greek community still thrives, providing visitors with authentic Greek food and products off the docks.
Tarpon area is rich in sports, Music, Shopping, Education, Golf and Culture. We are the home of the Devil Rays, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Stanley Cup winning Tampa Bay Lightning as well as the Spring Training location for the Phillies, Blue Jays and Yankees.
Both Tampa and St. Petersburg Campuses of the University of South Florida are less than one hour away from Tarpon Springs. There are also five Campuses of St. Petersburg College offering joint studies with several Florida Colleges including Stetson University, Tampa College and several Technical Schools.
